Dear patients, we have come to the difficult decision to discontinue our participation in the Washington State DSHS (Apple Health) program.

Effective December 1st 2023, we will end services with the following programs:

- Washington State DSHS / ProviderOne

- Molina Healthcare

- Community Health Plan of Washington

- Coordinated Care (Ambetter)

- United Healthcare Community Plan (March Vision)

- Amerigroup (EyeQuest)

As many of you know, we started our clinic four years ago as a husband and wife team and have remained that way. This has resonated with many of our patients and we see it as part of the essential identity of our clinic. At this time, however, we are faced with an impossibly large case load. Our current wait time for an appointment is usually over two months. For reference, this is equal to over 500 pending appointments before the next one is available.

In order to maintain this growing patient base we would need to fundamentally change how our small family clinic operates. Unfortunately the office would certainly need to transform into something that looks and feels much more like a hospital clinic than a family-operated business.

We don’t actually believe that is the kind of clinic we want See Saw Eyecare to become. We are not a hospital, chain, or franchise location. We are a family business, and accept the limitations in size that requires. The only way to maintain a high level of personalized care is to increase the time we can spend with our patients and reduce the amount of time we need to spend outside clinic hours completing government-issued paperwork and forms.

We recognize that finding a network provider can be a challenging process, so following this letter is a list of recommended clinics that accept each Apple Health plan and plan resources. We will be able to send any records, on request, to your new preferred provider. Please note that there is no referral required to see a new eye care provider on any state plan. You are also free to continue your care at our clinic on an open-network fee-for-service basis. 2023 discounted fee listings will also be attached to this letter.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude for your support over the years. We have been honored to serve you and your families. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this time of transition. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

- Dr. Jon and Dr. Iwona

Questions & Answers

Why are you no longer accepting Medicaid?

Simply put, it is too difficult as a small family-run clinic to continue the administrative work of the State insurance programs. This was a tough decision, but we (Dr. Jon and Dr. Iwona) have exceeded our personal capacity to continue to do the work that hospitals or larger health systems can more easily handle.

What locations accept my insurance?

Scroll below for a list of locations for each insurance provider and managed care plan.

When will this change happen?

November 30th is the last day we will be taking appointments for Apple Health clients. We will be in contact with anyone with an appointment after this time. We are trying to ensure that all our booking channels are updated with this information.

Can I still see you if I pay out-of-pocket?

Yes - please see our attached fee-for-service pricing, and you can continue to make an appointment as usual.

Can I still get my Medicaid covered glasses through you?

Until November 30th.

Do I need a referral to see another provider?

You do not need a referral to see another eye care provider.

How do I get my prescription/records/etc.?

Your prescription and basic information are available on your patient portal at seesaweyes.janeapp.com . If you need anything forwarded to another provider, please let us know the name and fax number of where you would like it sent. It may take 5-10 business days for records to be transferred.

How many people work for See Saw Eyecare?

Just two of us, Dr. Jon and Dr. Iwona. While we have had some temporary help from friends and family members, we are the only two here in the office all the time.

How many locations do you have?

Just one. We are not part of any groups, franchises, or chains.

Will you ever take Medicaid in the future?

We are not sure what the future holds, but the program has generally become more difficult to work with over time, so we have no plans at this time to return to taking it.
